Mid-Century Painting by the Iconic French Artist Charles Levier


This oil on canvas painting of the 1960's was created by the iconic French artist Charles Levier (aka Maurice Verrier) b. 1920-2003 and is signed in the lower right corner Levier.

Levier a Modern Cubist painter is most known for his Abstracted Post-Impressionistic still-lifes and cityscapes of harbor towns.

The line delineation of this harbor towne cityscape recalls the simple techniques so frequently found in Cubism.

Levier paintings are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Paris, and Menton Museum, Paris. In the United States his work can be found in the permanent collections of the Atlanta Museum, Seattle Museum and New Orleans Museum to name a few. His works have been included in the private collection of Baron Edmond de Rothchild.

The painting is in a black wooden frame with a self-fillet in a cross-hatch pattern in a beige/tan color.

This charming allegorical painting depicts lovers being entertained by puttis with sweets and music. The colors are very much in the mood of spring and all its glory. The piece is framed in an antique gold finish.

HERMAN LIPOT (Hungarian, 1884-1972) 
Herman Lipot studied at the Mintarajz School under Ede Balló, László Hegedûs and Tivadar Zemplényi. He won the Munkácsy-price and he was a well respected and talented artist. He painted landscapes and portraits in a open and semi impressionist style. His work was often exhibited, particularly at the Ernst Museum. Budapest.

Hand colored etching "Black Silk Scarf" signed by classical Russian painter Lev Tchistovsky (1902-1969). He moved to Paris in 1926 and his nudes were especially known for their technical perfection.

This beautiful painting is by the American artist Charles J. Burdick and is acrylic on paper. Here he has captured the female form with great play of light that seems to dance across the flesh and yet grounded with out-lining in darker colors. The frame looks to be zebra wood from the graining.
